Kendal
will be looking for maximum league point’s this weekend as they
make the long trip down to Nottinghamshire to play Worksop Town.
Town are fresh off a shock FA Cup home exit at the hand’s of Mossley
AFC and will be in a very determined mood to get back on track this
weekend. The team just never really got going against Mossley, but
in fairness they did still create chances and if they converted
those opportunities they may have sneaked through into the next
round. But let’s not forget despite the early FA Cup exit, Town
are on a good run of form in the league currently sitting in the
5th play off position and with the league so tight at the moment
it’s important for Kendal to forget about last weekend and crack
on in their quest for a play off spot. In a funny sort of way the
disappointment of last weekend may be a good thing in the long run
as they can now put their main efforts on The Unibond League. As
regard’s to team news, all I am aware of at the moment is the absence
of Lee Ashcroft who will be serving his 2nd of a 3 game suspension.
Ian Kilford has also been absent recently, and I am unsure how long
it will be before he make’s a return to the 1st team. And with Tony
Hallam back in the team and coming off the bench, it will be interesting
too see if the manager start’s him this weekend. Meanwhile David
Standley could also be pushing for a 1st team place after recovering
from his broken rib injury. The last time we played each other:
We played them twice last season in the Unibond League drawing on
both occasions 1-1. I remember Ian Kilford opened the scoring for
Town at Worksop before they struck with a late equaliser. The opposition:
Worksop Town are playing their home game's at Hucknall Town's Watnall
ground. Their season so far has been quite inconsistent, currently
sitting one place above the drop zone after 9 games, winning 2,
drawing 3 and losing 4. Looking at their result’s they have done
pretty well against the fancied team’s in the league drawing with
both Eastwood Town and Bradford Park Avenue, whilst winning 1-0
away at Boston United and winning 2-1 at home to Leigh Genesis.
They also won 5-1 down at Marine in The early stages of the FA Cup.
So results like that leave me wondering why they are struggling
at the moment in truth as they have proven that they can compete
against the tough sides in the division. They are going into this
match off the back of 2 straight defeat’s a 1-0 home defeat by Ilkeston
and a disappointing 2-1 FA Cup exit at King’s Lynn which had a staggering
1080 people in attendance! Player’s to watch out for: For me they
have two main threat’s in their side, both can cause problem’s,
Kevin Sanasy: A very prolific goalscorer, always find’s the back
of the net, currently with 4 goals in 9 games. Kirk Jackson, his
2nd spell with Worksop, in his first time at the club he got 57
goals in 80 starts before moving to Darlington. In his 2nd coming
he’s grabbed 4 goals so far this season. Overall: A difficult match
but with Worksop’s inconsistencies and Kendal’s good form despite
last weekend’s blip the team will believe that they have a chance
in this match. Craig Hobson interestingly has entered the Unibond
League top goal scoring charts with 7 goal’s to his name. Hopefully
he can keep his form going for Kendal this weekend.
