If manager Lee Ashcroft was looking for a positive response from his side after last week's FA Cup exit, then he certainly got one. Town ran out comfortable winners in Nottinnghamshire and could have scored a lot more than the two mustered. Indeed, Alex Taylor could have had five or six goals for himself. The first action of the day saw Town's Craig Hobson have a shot deflected for a corner. At the other end, Town 'keeper David Newnes made a fine save from Worksop's Gary Townsend. A great cross in from Lee Mulvaney forced Worksop's Andrew Boyce to head over his own crossbar. Two attacks from the home side came to very little and were easily dealt with. Paul Byrne and Hobson combined to create a chance that was blocked by the home defence. A Hobson shot was then well saved by Worksop 'keeper Steve Hernandez, Taylor having a follow up effort also saved. A quick free kick from Michael Cole set up Taylor one on one with the 'keeper, but again he was denied. A Worksop corner caused some panic in the Town defence and George Melling was forced to head the ball off the line. A poor free kick routine from Kendal Town saw a dangerous position wasted. The second half burst into action as Kendal Town were awarded a penalty on 49 minutes. The referee, after consulting his lineman, decided that there had been a handball in the area. Michael Cole stepped up to blast Kendal Town into the lead. It got even better on 56 minutes as Alex Taylor finished off a fine move involving Byrne, Standley and Cole. A brilliant save by Newnes from Worksop's substitute Andy White maintained Kendal's 2-0 advantage. Hoson was replaced by Carl Osman. David Standley burst into the area and was blatantly felled, though the spot kick shout was turned down this time. Two efforts in as many minutes from Tayolr were both well saved by the increasingly busy Hernandez. Another good cross into the Worksop area was fired over the bar by Taylor. A Byrne break found Taylor, who crossed to the back post for Osman to shoot over. Yet another Taylor effort was well saved and Byrne could only find the side netting with his follow up effort. A great display from Kendal Town that saw them keep hold of 5th position in the league.
