Kendal
are back in action on Monday night as they travel to play Ashton
United in this latest Unibond Premier Division encounter. Town of
course most recently played Ashton away in the FA Cup qualifiers
and won 3-2 so they will be confident of a repeat performance and
result in this latest encounter. Saturday saw Kendal claim a 1-1
draw at home to Frickley in a game which wasn’t one of Kendal’s
better performances of the season, the team got drawn into a long
ball type of game which they don’t like and Frickley time wasted
making it a very ugly match to watch at times. However the late
Town equaliser does mean our unbeaten run of form continues going
into Monday night. This match is also a fantastic opportunity for
the lads to get into a play off position, with all teams in the
Unibond premier evenly matched it’s anybody’s league right now.
Team news: I am constantly getting all the team news wrong, as I
don’t fully know what’s what. Going off Saturday’s game, Michael
Cole was suspended, Tony Hallam made a return to the bench and Alex
Taylor was absent from the game. Ian Kilford also came off early
due to Injury. So I think it will be pretty much the same as the
weekend, however Alex Taylor could make a return whilst Ian Kilford
is probably rated a 50/50 for this match. Dave Standley meanwhile
is getting closer to a return after being out with broken ribs.
The Opposition: Ashton United had a troubled weekend down at Prescot,
as the game was held up for half an hour as 2 of their defenders
both went down with serious injuries. Danny Coldicott went down
with a serious eye injury whilst Craig Robinson fractured his ankle.
And they only just managed to draw 1-1 way at a struggling side.
However despite these blows they will be determined to put right
the FA Cup defeat by Town a few weeks ago and will still be a threat.
Town deserved to win that game, and I would imagine they will try
and make life difficult for Kendal. Ben Deegan and Ian Fitzpatrick
are the 2 players which Town will have to watch closely, Deegan
scored against us in the cup whilst Fitzpatrick is always a thorn
in any teams defence. Overall: This match has come pretty quickly
for both teams really, so in a way it’s not ideal to be having this
fixture so soon after a physical encounter with Frickley. Hopefully
Town can go there and get a positive result and keep this good run
of results going!
