A disappointing preformance from Kendal Town saw them outplayed in Cheshire. On a bowling green like pitch, that should have suited Town's attractive playing style, Town were behind on just 2 minutes when Glyn Blackhurst headed home. Some good play from Paul Byrne and Craig Hobson forced a corner which was cleared to Paul Byrne, who shot over the bar. Town 'keeper David Newnes then had to pull off a great save to deny Nanwitch's Liam Shotton, however an unmarked Shotton made it 2-0 for the home side when he fired home on 20 mins. Kendal Town were not playing well at all. Nantwich's keeper Lee Jones just got to a through ball before Alex Taylor could latch onto it. It got worse on 28 minutes as Peter Heler evaded three tackles on the edge of the area before drilling the ball home. Another great save by Newnes from Robin Gibson kept Town in the game. A spell of Town pressure saw an Alex Taylor effort blocked yards from goal, Carl Osman had a good shot turned around the post and Michael Cole shot over as Town finally started to try and get their game going. A Kendal Town corner hit George Melling, but he couldn't deflect it goalwards. The start of the second half saw Lee Ashcroft come on up front and Craig Hobson drop into the backline, with David Standley making way. Carl Osman ran at the Nantwich defence and shot just wide. Nantwich had an effort bounce back off the post before Kendal Town were given a lifeline when Ian Kilford was brought down for a penalty, but Lee Ashcroft's spot kick was saved by Jones, diving to his left. Another Osman run and shot was tipped over the bar and Hobson had a shot deflected over as Town tried to up the pressure. Nantwich's Peter Heler had a free kick well saved by Newnes. At the other end an Ashcroft effort was saved easily by Jones. Craig Hobson was then dismissed from the field after a clumsy challenge saw him recieve a second yellow card on 69 minutes. Michael Cole shot wide after a good knockdown from Lee Ashcroft. Nantwich created a great move that saw Phil Parkinson's shot well saved by Newnes. Zach Clarke replaced Alex Taylor and almost immediately set up a chance for Carl Osman, but his effort went just wide. With just 5 minutes to go, Newnes had a kick charged down by Danny Griggs and fellow substitute Dave Walker "walked" the ball into an empty net to make it 4-0 to Nantwich., It could have been five as Liam Shotton missed an open goal after rounding Newnes. So a bad day at the office for Kendal Town, we will be looking for an immediate response against Guiseley on Tuesday night.
