Another superb display from Kendal Town as they start this season with a run of fine results. An hour before kick off not many people would have thought this this game would see it's entirity. Great work by the staff at Kendal Town and a reasonable referee provided a great night's entertainment. Michael Cole scored a great goal for the home side on just two minutes as he drilled the ball home from the edge of the area. However, the Lairds were level just seconds later as, somehow, the ball beat Kendal 'keeper David Newnes and just scrambled over the line. The goal was awarded to Mark Reed on 3 minutes, though how much he knew about it is unsure. It was a very open game on a greasy surface and on just 10 minutes Lee Ashcroft sent Kendal Town 2-1 up with a brilliant finish to a very good move, is there a better side going forward in this division ?? Lee Ashcroft then shot just wide as Kendal Town looked to bury their opponents. But Cammell Laird were still scrapping for the points in this highly entertaining game. Another excellent move from Kendal Town saw Michael Cole grab his second goal of the night as he blasted home on 27 minutes to make it 3-1 to Town. The rain was pouring down now ,and it looked like Town may be denied a victory. But the referee continued with the game, and it was Cammell Laird that scored next as Danny Desormeaux scored on 40 minutes to make it 3-2 as the sides went in at half time. The second half started with Cammell Laird really forcing Kendal Town back. Cammell Laird substitute Graham Branch went close, but his shot was wide. Kendal's Alex Taylor was in full flight, and was in on goal, when he was brought down..the referee saw no reason to award a free kick to the Town !! A great long range effort from Lee Mulvaney was well saved by Ex Town 'keeper Rick Whiteside. A goalmouth scramble in the Town penalty area was eventually cleared as Lairds upped their game. Lee Mulvaney had a great chance to clinch the win for Town as he broke free of the Laird's defence, but as he tried to round the 'keeper, Whiteside saved well and as the ball broke to Alex Taylor, his overhead effort was blocked. Town were now well back in this game and it came as no suprise when Lee Mulvaney scored from the edge of the area to make it 4-2 to Kendal Town on 73 minutes with a great strike. Laird's Desormeaux had a header suprbly saved by Town 'keeper David Newnes. Cammell Laird are a far better side than their position in the table shows, they will move up the table. Kedal Town then finished the game off without too many scares. An excellent start to the season sees us sitting in 7th place in the table. All four goals scored by Kendal Town tonight were pure quality...you have to see us to believe us ! Ashy has got to be pleased with the start of the season, we all are at Kendal Town FC.
