Kendal Town v Guiseley

Preview by Richard Edmondson

Kendal will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Nantwich when they entertain early pace setters Guiesley at the Lakeland Radio Stadium on Tuesday night. Thing’s didn’t go according to plan at the weekend, you just get games where for some unknown reason the team fail to perform, fortunately for Kendal this match has come at a good time for them, it gives them a great chance to get back on track. Town started with Craig Hobson and Alex Taylor up front at the weekend but were without Tony Hallam at the back. I think new signing Anthony Murt was also missing from Saturday’s match. It will be interesting too see if Hallam and Murt return for this midweek game. Big games like this tend to give Kendal an extra lift and being in front of the home support can make a telling difference to the side as the home form is pretty solid. The opposition: Guiesley have made an unbeaten start to the season, ironically they started the early part of last season in similar fashion, but fell away and despite a late charge for a play off spot they were to be denied as results went against them on the final day. Their record this season so far reads played 5, won 4 and drawn 1, scoring 13 and conceding 5. Our form against them last season included a last minute 2-2 draw at The Lakeland Radio Stadium following a last gasp Peter Wright goal and a narrow 2-1 defeat away on the last day after heroics by their keeper Piotr Skiba. Players to watch out for: Guiesley have made some new additions in the summer, bringing in the likes of Robert Morgan and Striker Scott Jackson who have links with Bradford City. They have also brought in Jeremy Illingworth an attacking midfielder they signed from Stockbridge, where he ended up with 16 goals. He has also played several 1st team games for Huddersfield Town. Adam Muller: Signed from fellow Unibond side Ilkeston Town, a player with a lot of potential, and was voted man of the match in their 2-0 win over Witton Albion at the weekend. Piotr Skiba: A Goalkeeper they signed from Hednesford Town last season, has put in some match winning performances for the Yorkshire side including a man of the match display at the end of last season when Kendal narrowly lost 2-1 at their ground. Mark Whitehouse, a striker who bagged 2 goals at the weekend, in confident form and looking for more on Tuesday night. Overall: An intriguing match for Kendal, just the sort of match they need after Saturday’s disappointment, an opportunity to end the unbeaten run of Guiesley and a chance to get back on track quickly.
