Kendal Town 1 v Frickley Athletic 1
20th September 2008

A point gained was the reaction at full time from a game that Kendal Town never really got going in. Town's George Melling headed clear as Frickley mounted an early attack. A long throw in was dropped byTown 'keeper David Newnes, who was relived to see Melling head the follow up effort off the line. Ian Kilford went off injured on just 11 minutes with local lad Gary Baker replacing him. Frickley's Chris White outran the Town defence, but fired over from close range. Lee Ashcroft had a point blank effort saved by Frickley 'keeper Adam Nicklin, but it was ruled offside anyway. An injury to Frickley's Anthony Jackson delayed the game for several minutes. The game was constantly being stopped by an over zealous referee who didn't allow the game to flow. A great effort from Town's Baker was excellently saved. A good run by Lee Mulvaney was eventually halted by the Frickley defence. The opening goal arrived on 30 minutes and it went to the visitors. A deft touch from Frickley's Lee Morris went passed Newnes, two Town defenders failed to clear the ball off the line. A deserved lead to the side from Yorkshire. Baker shot wide for Town, who were not playing to their usual high standard. A poor shot from Mulvaney from an encouraging position was the last action of the first half. Kendal Town had to step up their performance in the second half and they began the second stansa much brighter. Carl Osman nearly broke through early in the half. A great cross from Paul Byrne was headed wide by Craig Hobson. But then the game turned into a scrappy affair, no real clear cut chances at either end, and plenty of time wasting from Frickley. A Carl Osman shot was deflected goalwards by Lee Ashcroft's header, but the Frickley 'keeper saved it as Kendal Town were getting into the game finally. Anthony Murt and Tony Hallam were brought on for Ashcroft and Mulvaney. It paid dividends almost immediately as Hallam headed down a corner for Craig Hobson to blast the ball home and Kendal Town level on 80 minutes. Frickley's Chris Davies shot over as Frickley made a rare excursion forward. A great run and cross was kept out by a smart save from the Frickley 'keeper Nicklin. The game finished with both sides pretty happy with a point.
